FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to pay for your service?

No. Our brokerage service is free for our clients. We do not charge you anything directly. We receive a commission from the supplier when we arrange a contract (this is standard in the industry). Importantly, this commission is built into the prices we quote – you’ll pay the rate we present, and no extra. We’re completely transparent about this: we’ll tell you upfront and even put it in writing how we’re compensated. There are no hidden fees whatsoever. Our interests align with yours – we only get paid when you’re happy with a deal and decide to switch, so you can trust that we’re motivated to find the best option for you.

Will my business experience any downtime or interruption when I switch?

No, not at all. Switching energy suppliers is a seamless process. There’s no physical change to your wires or meter – it’s purely an administrative change. You won’t notice any loss of power or gas during the transition. We coordinate the switch carefully to start the new contract as soon as the old one ends (or on your chosen date). The lights stay on the whole time. The only difference you’ll see is a new supplier name on your bill and, hopefully, a lower rate!

How long does it take to switch business energy suppliers?

Typically about 2 to 4 weeks once you’ve agreed to a new contract. The exact timeline can vary: by regulation, there’s a 14-day “cooling-off” period for microbusinesses (very small businesses) after signing a new contract, during which the switch cannot complete – this is for your protection in case you change your mind. After that, the new supplier arranges the switch, which usually happens on the next available meter reading or billing cycle date. Rest assured, we manage the timeline and keep you updated. If you have a specific deadline (for example, your current contract ends on a certain date), we ensure the new supply kicks in right on time.

When is the best time to look at new energy contracts?

We recommend starting to shop around about 3–6 months before your current contract ends. Business energy contracts can be arranged in advance – many suppliers allow locking in rates months ahead. By reviewing options early, you avoid the risk of falling onto expensive out-of-contract rates if your deal lapses. If your end date is further out, we’re still happy to research; we can monitor the market and inform you if a particularly good forward deal comes up. And if your contract is already due or lapsed, contact us immediately – the sooner we act, the sooner you save.

My contract doesn’t end for a while. Can I switch now?

If you’re mid-contract, you usually have to wait until the end of the term to avoid penalties (most business energy contracts don’t let you leave early without exit fees). However, that doesn’t mean we can’t help now. We can start the process of finding you a better deal well in advance. In many cases, we can lock in today’s prices for a future start date (so you secure a low rate now for when your current contract expires). We’ll also make sure to handle any required notice to terminate your existing contract at the end of its term. In short, even if your renewal is months away, it’s wise to plan ahead – and we’ll keep everything on track for the switch when the time comes.

What if I’m stuck in a rollover or out-of-contract rates?

Don’t panic – we can definitely help. If your previous contract ended and you didn’t arrange a new one in time, you might have been put on “out-of-contract” or “deemed” rates. These are significantly higher (often ~50% more than normal contract rates) and will drain your budget quickly. The good news is you can exit these rates at any time. We’ll fast-track finding you a better deal to get you off those costly rates as soon as possible. If you’ve been rolled over into a one-year renewal by your supplier (which can happen if notice wasn’t given), we can still explore options – depending on the circumstances, we might negotiate with the supplier or at least line up a new contract to start as soon as that rollover period is done. The key is to take action quickly, and we’re here to do just that on your behalf.

Which suppliers do you work with?

We work with a broad panel of reputable UK energy suppliers – there are around 40 licensed business energy suppliers in the UK, and we strive to give you options from across this market. This includes all of the “Big Six” (like British Gas, EDF, E.ON, Octopus, ScottishPower, etc.) and many independent suppliers that specialize in competitive business tariffs or green energy. We’re pretty selective – we vet suppliers to ensure they are financially stable and provide good customer service (for example, we avoid those with a track record of billing issues or poor support). Our aim is to give you choice across the market, but only from providers we’d be confident using ourselves. If you have a preferred supplier, let us know – otherwise, we’ll simply focus on who offers the best deal for your needs.

How are you different from an online comparison site?

Online comparison sites can be a useful starting point, but our service goes much further. First, we have access to exclusive rates and a wider range of suppliers than most comparison tools – some deals (and smaller suppliers) aren’t listed on public sites. Second, we provide human expertise and personalization: a website won’t tailor advice to you, but we will. We take the time to understand your usage patterns and priorities (e.g., if you value green energy or need flexible terms) and then recommend the best fit. Third, we handle the entire switching process for you, whereas comparison sites typically leave you to finalize the contract and any paperwork. Finally, we stick with you for the long run – a comparison site won’t remind you when your contract is ending or help you with issues down the line. In summary, using us is like having an energy consultant by your side, not just a price listing.

What if a supplier you sign me up with goes out of business?

This is a understandable concern, especially after the turmoil in the energy market in recent years when several suppliers went bust. The important thing is: you will not be left without power or gas. If a supplier fails, Ofgem (the energy regulator) will step in and move customers to a new supplier through the “Supplier of Last Resort” system. We’ve helped clients through this process. Should it ever happen, we will assist you in understanding your new situation, and if needed, help you negotiate a new contract once the market stabilizes. We keep an eye on the health of the suppliers we recommend, but in the unlikely event of a failure, we’ve got your back every step of the way.

Can you help with reducing energy consumption or green energy options?

Our primary role is getting you the best contract deals, but we’re happy to point you toward savings on the consumption side too. We can advise on options like smart meters (to better track and manage usage) and connect you with energy efficiency resources. If you’re interested in renewable or carbon-neutral energy, we can certainly help you choose a green energy tariff or even explore alternatives like installing solar panels (through our partners) if it suits your business. Many of our clients opt for 100% renewable electricity contracts these days – we can explain how those work and set them up. In short, we’re here to support your cost-cutting and sustainability goals in any way we can.
